Can I actuate the valve adjuster with the engine not running? Thanks in advance. I know the measurement between the intake gear mark and bridge are slightly off its making me think the cam adjuster is stuck. The last bearing on the oil bridge that supports the end of the exhaust cam looked good and was not scored. I replaced an engine recently in a GTI that had a CCTA engine and the cams were nearly seized into the head from lack of oil. I have installed the updated tensioners and retimed a few of these now in the past month but haven't run into this issue yet. Should I pull the pan off and inspect the oil pickup tube? Could the chain be stretched? Could the fluted actuator be jammed up? I found a VW self study program #246 it says "If the vvt fails to function the fluted variator will be pressed by the oil pressure to the basic position of 25 ATDC". I have too much time involved already and the car still doesn't run right. Reinstalled after inspection and car runs the same.Īny ideas what might be going on with this engine? The owner is already crying about the initial cost of repair. I also removed the aluminum bridge between the cams to inspect the screen and make sure nothing was plugged up and that looks good. All blocks except 1 RPM, stay constant even with increased RPM. Group 91 block two is 5.9, three 28'kw, four 28'kw. After looking at the problem car again I realized that the cam adjuster is not functioning at all. I have another car in the shop that is identical year and model so I looked at group 91 in the engine controller and made note of how the cam adjuster functions with relation to the data blocks. This makes me think the car doesn't recognize the correlation problem until the ECU is in closed loop. The car runs for about five minutes without throwing the cam correlation code. So I took the top cover off and measured again. I noticed the correlation code had come back. After running the car for a few minutes and trying different things. I also blocked off the oil/air separator to get that out of the equation. I have swapped out the plugs and coils with known good parts as well as the cam sensor. Once the car started up it immediately started to misfire but no correlation code. I contributed this to the tensioner not having been pressurized so I cranked it over with the upper timing cover off and that stopped once it had oil pressure. I noticed with the upper cover off the cam chain wanted to jump off the sprockets when the engine was turned over by hand. I installed the new tensioner and retimed both chains. The center deflector was almost cut in half. Once removed, I noticed the oil deflector on the inside of the cover was making contact with the chain in two different places. I decided to remove the lower timing cover and install the latest chain tensioner with the K suffix and a new cover. One time it was a quart low and the other time it didn't require oil. According to the customer oil was checked both times the light came on. It was 25psi at idle and increased as I rev'd it up so that appeared acceptable. The customer said the oil light came a few times in the past week just before the car started having problems so I hooked up the oil pressure gauge. I checked for bent valves with a leak down gauge then did a compression test. The distance between the bridge and the intake mark was slightly under spec by a few mm it measured about 59-60 mm. I used DrPeter's quick reference procedure and measured the distance between the cam sprockets with the engine at TDC. Car has cam correlation code p0016 and abnormal chain noise and misfire codes on all cylinders. ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s not all experimental glitch-core, however: traditionalists are catered for too, via the new Upright Piano, Brass Quartet and String Quartet instruments. The result is a jittery, glitch-based audio processor capable of “delayed digital shimmers” and “outlandish vibrato”.Ībout the new Inspired by Nature suite, we know even less - just that there are six of them, that they’re “playful instruments and effects that use physics and nature as their inspiration”, and that they were developed by sound artist and long-time Ableton collaborator Dillon Bastan. Same-but-different is Spectral Time, another granular effect but which applies delay effects to the audio slices, which Ableton tell us can yield “metallic echoes, frequency-shifted and reverb-like effects”.įor PitchLoop89, Ableton enlisted the help of computer music and AV artist Robert Henke. It also has a MIDI sidechain input, letting you control the pitches it generates in real time from a controller keyboard. Spectral Resonator is a granular processor that takes your audio, dices it into tiny pieces, and loops, stretches and compresses it to create pitched resonances. Among the novel Live devices are Hybrid Reverb, which combines convolution and algorithmic reverb generation to, as Ableton put it, “create any space, from accurate real-life environments to those that defy physical reality”. No integer update of a major DAW would be complete without some new toys to play with, and Live 11 is no exception. Traditional MIDI hasn’t been left out though: the probability-based note and controller triggering made popular by Elektron‘s sequencing boxes can now be applied in Live too, so that you can set the chance, as a percentage, that a certain note will trigger, or even define a range of note velocities to be triggered at random - which sounds like a great way to inject a little humanity into programmed drums. Features of Ableton Live Suite 11īelow are some noticeable features which you’ll experience after Ableton Live Suite 11 free download. What’s more, a number of Live’s bundled devices will now respond to MPE data - including Wavetable, Sampler and Arpeggiator. MPE support means you can now record and edit multi-dimensional performance data from ROLIs, LINNstruments, Keith McMillen and Joué controllers, plus many more besides, aided by a new Expression View. This lets you group a selection of two or more tracks and edit their content together with sample-accurate timing, much as you can with Pro Tools’ Edit Groups.Īnother area that has received considerable attention is MIDI, and most notably in Live’s adoption of the new MIDI Polyphonic Expression, or MPE, standard. ![]() Live now organises multiple takes of an audio or MIDI performance into parallel lanes, which you can use to comp together the perfect pass - though Ableton suggest that this new comping feature has utility in sound design too, for create rhythmic stuttering effects and more.Īlso borrowed from more traditional DAWs is a feature called Linked-track Editing. ![]() Live’s DAW credentials have also been given a shot in the arm. Plus, you can now assign up to 16 Macros to entire Racks, and these can be randomised at the push of a button should you wish to inject a little chaos into your performances. And for on-the-fly tweaking, Live’s Macro feature has also been given a boost, in the form of snapshot saving and recall. And yet dystopias remind us that our advancements are just baby steps and our inclinations toward fascism remain. We’d desperately like to believe that the world is getting better, that we are improving in some way. Perhaps the scariest thing about dystopia films is the way they reject our fundamental assumptions about society. Salò is easily the toughest watch on this list, stripping away all the escapist fun offered by future-set dystopias and forcing us to see ourselves at our worst. ![]() With shocking frankness, Pasolini’s camera holds on stomach-churning scenes of rape and torture, as the four men take full advantage of the ability to dehumanize their charges. It begins with four powerful leaders - the Duke, the Bishop, the Magistrate, and the President - agreeing to marry off their daughters to one another, and grows more depraved from there. Over the course of its four parts, Salò captures some of the most unsettling images ever captured on film. Of course, it’s hard to attend to those lessons while actually watching the movie. By Italy’s recent past at its most depraved, Pasolini reminded viewers of the end result of conservative leanings. Namely, he loosely adapted the Marquis de Sade’s 1785 novel 120 Days of Sodom by setting it in fascist Italy during World War II. But for his infamous Salò, or the 120 Days of Sodom, Italian director Pier Paolo Pasolini looked toward the past. It’s easier to talk about the problems in the present by showing what happens if they continue. Most dystopias focus on the future, and with good reason. It’s that sort of direct cinematic language that makes Metropolis such an immediate work, even nearly 100 years later. When Freder first visits the underground factories and witnesses an accident on a machine, he sees it transform into the pagan god Moloch, who devours the workers sacrificed to him. Adapting the novel by his wife Thea Gabriele von Harbou (who also wrote the screenplay), Lang infuses his story with surreal power that transmutes into undeniable anger. Some of the videos involve him hitting multiple bullseyes as well as a number of high scoring rounds. While modern viewers may find the parable of this world simplistic, there’s no denying the visceral shock of director Fritz Lang’s imagery. His TikTok, has hundreds of thousands of views with one video having over 170,000 on its own. Since starting, he has hit regular triple 20s, the bullseye and even managed a score of 180.
